Research Collegia Prerequisites, Education and Outcomes (FUR)

Quantitative research on the classical educational issues

Within this collegia the focus is on the relationships between the individuals’ prerequisites for education, organization and outcomes of the education. They are seen as interdependent and the interest of the collegia lies in understanding these dependencies. Studies of equivalence and equality in education and transition to working life characterize research issues within the collegia. For this reason, the Collegia's research is characterized by quantitative surveys, often in the form of large-scale studies based on random samples, register data, questionnaires and tests, but also randomized small-scale intervention studies.

Databases have been built for longitudinal surveys of nationally representative samples and around international comparative studies such as PISA, PIRLS and TIMSS. A common theme is also the use of multivariate statistical methods. With these methods, many explanatory variables can be analyzed simultaneously, and it is possible to work with non-observable variables, such as attitudes, motivation, knowledge and skills. Furthermore, it is possible to simultaneously analyze data at multiple observation levels, for example at individual, group and system level. One of the aims of the college is to problematize and discuss issues, methodology and outcomes in the field of education. We also want to promote a broad and outward debate on current research in the field.
